We are currently seeking an experienced professional for the position of Accountant – Asset Management. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring 3rd party management monthly financials are uploaded into KCHA’s accounting system, preparing and wiring funds to over forty-five properties every week, managing over 180 government and commercial bank accounts, and provide monthly financial reports. Your other responsibilities will include, but are not limited to resolving account issues; reviewing, researching, and reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing and submitting entries/corrections, and maintaining strong communication with stakeholders. You will closely collaborate with accountants from third-party property management companies to ensure processing and reporting are both timely and accurate. This position reports to a Senior Asset Manager at our Central Office in Tukwila, WA. We are looking for an individual who is proactive, committed to resolving issues promptly, skilled in using accounting software, and possesses excellent communication skills.

Position Duties
- Manage and oversee the management over 180 government and commercial bank accounts.
- Initiate, and ensure release of, all outgoing wire payments for accounts payable, payroll, debt service, replacement reserve, and excess cash for over forty-five properties on a weekly basis.
- Maintain chart of account crosswalks between KCHA and all contracted management companies based on GAAP and Authority practice; identify updates, improvements and additions.
- Prepare and post monthly management company financial information for over 45 properties to KCHA general ledger.
- Prepare and post entries to various journals, ledgers, and accounts.
- Provide monthly financial reports including information on expenditures, use of sources, as well as total summary reports and detailed reports for each property.
- Perform data entry with a high degree of accuracy.
- Perform daily, monthly, and year end reconciliations for all bank accounts.
- Assist with CashPro issues and questions.
- Prepare banking and/or transaction information and cash and account info, upon request, to state, or other auditors.
- Identify unknown reconciling items, research transactions, prepare correcting/adjusting journal entries, and follow up on any unusual or unresolved outstanding reconciliation items.
- Respond to all questions from KCHA/AM staff & contracted management companies regarding bank accounts, account services, account operations, billing.
Other Functions
- Facilitate the opening and closing of KCHA & Partnership bank accounts and the establishment of appropriate account services, billing, and distribution of account notifications.
- Review and ensure all cash and suspense accounts are true on a regular basis. Direct and/or submit journal entries as appropriate.
- Resolve difficult or unusual banking situations.
- Research and provide input and/or advice to AMs & MC staff regarding electronic rent collection and electronic deposit services.
- Advise and instruct correct entries incoming/outgoing cash.
- Review and analyze account analysis billing to ensure appropriate account servicing, maintain/ensure favorable account billing and investment returns.
- Apply fraud prevention techniques and internal controls.
- Review, research, reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare and submit entries/corrections as needed.
- Prepare, complete, review and/or contribute accounting entries related to acquisitions, partnership exits, ownership transfers, management company changes for post to KCHA general ledger.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting, economics, finance, or related field AND
- Moderate experience in accounting OR
- An equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this position's essential functions.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understands technical aspects of the position and continuously builds knowledge, keeping up to date on the substantive and procedural aspects of the position including, but not limited to:
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and terminology of general, fund and governmental accounting, including financial statement preparation and methods of financial and internal controls and financial reporting;
- Practical accounting experience and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- KCHA's regulations, policies and procedures;
- Internal audit systems and procedures;
- Evaluates complex accounting systems and efficiently formulates and installs accounting methods, procedures, forms and records;
- Prepares clear, concise and complete financial documents, statements and reports; makes accurate arithmetic calculations.
- Exercises independent judgment and discretion in performing departmental activities including handling difficult situations, maintaining standards, and resolving problems.
- Understands technical aspects of the position; utilize automated accounting systems; understand and accurately use KCHA's Chart of Accounts.
- Clearly and effectively communicates both verbally and in writing by actively listening and sharing relevant information with internal and external customers.
- Strong organizational skills including prioritizing, ensuring accuracy, multi-tasking, and handling interruptions appropriately; ensuring assignments are completed in a timely and effective manner.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff at all levels, auditors, business and community leaders, regulatory agency administrators, vendors, and the general public.
- Demonstrates proficiency in cultivating an inclusive work environment that values and appreciates equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging, treats others with respect, and fosters cooperation.
- Proficiency in using MS Office programs and database software.

Salary & Benefits:
The starting salary range for this position is $37.49 - $45.90 hourly dependent on qualifications and professional experience. The complete salary range for this position is $37.49 - $54.33 hourly. Performance-based merit increase opportunities and Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) are reviewed annually. Work Environment:
After initial onboarding, this position will have the opportunity to work remotely up to 60% in accordance with the KCHA's flexible work arrangements; however, remote work conditions will be reviewed on a regular basis based on business and program need. Employees must reside in Washington State and the ability to report to the Central Office in Tukwila will be required. Some local and domestic travel may be required to support KCHA business needs.
