Binks US LLC has an immediate opening for a Senior Cost Accountant. Reporting to the Plant Controller, the Senior Cost Accountant is based in Shoreview, MN, and is responsible for overseeing costing and reporting activities tied to the Shoreview and Blaine facilities. The Senior Cost Accountant plays a critical role in month end financial operations, leading cost accounting activities to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, bill of materials, absorption rates, and insightful variance analysis. You’ll support strategic decision-making, optimize cost control and process improvement.
Responsibilities
Cost Reporting & Analysis
- Develop and maintain standard costs for products or services
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual cost variance analysis (material, labor, overhead) and present key findings
- Review and analyze daily job postings to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Manage cost roll-forwards and revaluation processes
- Participate in month-end close processes for plants including journal entry preparation and support development, accrual evaluation, and inventory capitalization processes
- Perform month end account reconciliations
Inventory & COGS Management
- Ensure accurate valuation and reconciliation of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventories
- Coordinate physical or cycle counts and investigate discrepancies
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Identify cost-saving initiatives and support the implementation of cost-control measures
- Enhance cost accounting systems and workflows (ERP, Excel-based tools)
- Maintain internal controls, assist with audits, and ensure GAAP (or IFRS) compliance
Cross-functional Collaboration & Leadership
- Work with manufacturing, R&D, operations, procurement, and finance to analyze cost drivers and efficiency.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or equivalent with 4 years of relevant manufacturing experience in cost accounting, physical inventory, and cross-functional support
- Willing to travel 10% of the time or as business needs require
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, solid ERP systems knowledge
- Proven ability to prioritize objectives, adhere to deadlines, and follow through on deliverables independently
- Demonstrates critical thinking and has a curiosity for understanding full-scale business operations and processes
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience in EPICOR or similar ERPs preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment
