About the Department
Metro Nashville Public Health (MPHD) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Communicable Disease Investigator (CDI) to lead the MPHD unit responsible for the prevention and treatment of communicable diseases throughout Nashville and Davidson County. This position is a first-line supervisor responsible for planning, scheduling, organizing, and supervising the CDIs and support staff in our STD/HIV unit. The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge of effective supervisory and training skills, experience in the public health field work, and knowledge of sexually transmitted disease transmission, control, and investigation in a community health program.
Position Duties
- Performs lead or supervisory responsibilities for the education of patients and their family members regarding the nature and prevention of communicable diseases and their symptoms.
- Educates patients concerning STI/HIV treatments, including antibiotics, and follow-up care.
- Oversee counseling, testing, street outreach, STD/HIV educational activities, and health fairs.
- Assignments involve conducting epidemiological investigations, interacting with other specified agencies, ensuring patient treatment, and maintaining appropriate records and reports.
- Responsible for reviewing case analysis and documentation and ensuring that daily clinic, field, and surveillance activities occur according to local and state protocols.
- Plans and manages daily staff assignments and assists staff with difficult and/or stalled investigations. May perform essentially the same duties as other workers.
- Plans and carries out training and development of employees.
- Identifies and tests people at high risk of acquiring communicable diseases.
- Ensures patient’s completion of communicable disease drug treatment therapy.
- Maintains patient records and updates as needed.
- Provides education to new or suspected communicable disease patients.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of successful, progressively responsible, full-time paid employment in a related field are required.
A completed graduate degree in a directly related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

- Bilingual (English/Spanish).

- One (1) year within the past two (2) years in a public administration/supervisory capacity preferred.

LICENSES REQUIRED
A Valid "Class D" Driver's License may be required in some positions.
A Valid "Class C" Driver's License with a "P" endorsement is required for those positions with the responsibility of driving vans designed to seat more than 15 people, including the driver.
