Job Description: Speech-Language Specialist (Evaluation Services)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Speech-Language Specialist (or equivalent) to provide comprehensive evaluation services for students across Pre-School (3 & 4), Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. The specialist will play a key role in the Child Study Team (CST) process, conducting assessments, preparing reports, and collaborating with school staff to support individualized educational programming.

Evaluation Services Requirements

• Ability to administer evaluations for students at multiple developmental and grade levels.
• Proficiency with a range of standardized assessments used to diagnose speech-language disorders.
• Demonstrated experience in writing clear, comprehensive, and professional reports.
• Commitment to delivering completed reports within a two-week window.

Scope of Work

Activities

• Conduct Speech-Language evaluations on a per-case basis as part of the CST evaluation process.
• Assess and determine the presence (or rule out) of speech-language communication disabilities.
• Provide written reports with recommendations for educational programming.

Service Requirements

• Hold a New Jersey Certificate for Speech-Language Specialist or an approved equivalent.
• Perform district-based assessments on a scheduled basis before and after school hours.
• Submit written evaluation reports in a timely and professional manner.
• Participate in consultations and pre-planning IEP meetings with district case managers.

Engagement & Assessment Process

• Receive case information via disposition forms from the school district.
• Coordinate with parents/guardians to schedule evaluations at the district’s central office or designated facilities.
• Conduct evaluations either:
• At the central office conference room, or
• At the student’s school in an available room arranged by school staff.
• Ensure smooth scheduling and communication, with parents/guardians responsible for student transportation.

• Test of Early Language Development (TELD)
• Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals (CELF)
• Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation (GFTA)
• Preschool Language Scale – 5 (PLS-5)
• Functional Communication Profile – Revised (FCP-R)
• Expressive One-Word Picture Vocabulary Test (EOWPVT)
• Receptive One-Word Picture Vocabulary Test (ROWPVT)
• Receptive-Expressive Emergent Language Test – 4 (REEL-4)

Consultation & Collaboration

• Report to assigned schools and maintain active communication with administrators and CST members.
• Develop and share Speech Therapy schedules with school staff, teachers, parents, and CST members.
• Consult with instructional staff to reinforce student goals within the classroom.
• Address modifications requested by the district within five (5) business days and confirm completion.
• Remain available by phone for scheduled consultations with district case managers.

Qualifications

• Required:
• New Jersey Certificate for Speech-Language Specialist or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of professional experience in school-based or pediatric speech-language evaluation.
• Preferred:
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Creole.
• Familiarity with CST/IEP processes in school settings.
