About the Department
Responsible for directing and managing Five Rivers MetroParks’ (FRMP)sustainability efforts to reduce the agency’s carbon footprint and increase climate resiliency throughout all FRMP facilities and natural spaces.
Position Duties

- Develop, coordinate, and implement the FRMP Sustainability Plan and environmental policies.
- Responsible for guiding agency staff and volunteers in the implementation of sustainability initiatives at FRMP facilities, including environmental assessments, composting, recycling, zero-waste events, and natural resources climate change adaptation strategies.
- Collaborate with all functional areas to evaluate facility upgrades for improved efficiency. Research and develop acquisition guidelines for HVAC, water, and energy infrastructure upgrades.
- Lead interdepartmental sustainability committees to guide the agency’s strategic planning and implementation of sustainability practices.
- Monitor district-wide energy management, use, and tracking, including fuel, electricity, and water. Forecasts and analyzes collected data. Monitor industry statistics and follow trends in sustainable energy management practices.
- Develop and implement programs and guidelines throughout the agency to increase operational efficiency and reduce waste, including: solid waste, energy waste, water waste, food waste, and purchasing.
- Lead research and analysis to ensure business practices, products, and services are environmentally friendly and compliant with government rules and regulations.
- Collaborate on the development and delivery of staff-led educational programs regarding sustainability, waste management, energy conservation, climate change, and water protection.
- Promote and explain the agency sustainability philosophy to internal and external audiences.
- Conduct public speaker engagements on behalf of FRMP including local and regional public agencies, with local press and media, and with community partners.
- Create requests for proposals/requests for qualifications for agency sustainability related projects requiring contracted work. Write and award contracts, and serve as project manager, monitoring work to completion. Comply with FRMP and state required bidding process, create purchase orders, and file invoices for payment.
- Develop relationships with external partners to advance the agency’s sustainability goals and objectives.
- Identify and secure grant funding in collaboration with the Philanthropy Department for sustainability projects and initiatives.
- Provide training for staff, volunteers, and interns as needed related to sustainability initiatives.
- Works assigned schedule, exhibit regular and punctual attendance, and work outside of normal schedule as required.
- Provide service to the public, responding to questions, helping, and providing information.
- Collaborate internally, within and across functional areas, to provide information and service to others in the organization to contribute to the effective operation of the agency and all staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A combination of appropriate education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a closely related field.
- Five years’ relevant experience overseeing sustainability efforts including waste management, public speaking, and strategic planning.
- One of the following certifications or ability to acquire within the first two years of employment:
- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate or higher
- Certified Sustainability Professional (CSP)
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- Certified Sustainable Development Professional (CSDP)
