The Prince George’s County Department of Permitting, Inspections, & Enforcement is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Building/Structural Engineer Reviewer I (Engineer Reviewer 1Ggrade G24 positionin the Building Plan Review Division. 


PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY 1000 HOUR POSITION WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF PERMITTING, INSPECTIONS, & ENFORCEMENT

About the Position

This is a junior level engineering position in the Division of Building Plan Review, Building/Structural Section. Work requires sound independent professional judgment and responsibility in plan review, as well as technical engineering personnel under the general supervision of higher-level management personnel. Works includes performing their view of construction documents, involving the application of basic architectural, ADA, structural engineering principle in all phases of plan review with enforcement of the County and National Codes.

About The Agency

The Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control what goes on before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, who work cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection and enforcement comprise Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement. The Mission of the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement is to promote economic development in Prince George's County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning and property standards codes.

Position Duties


  • Reviews architectural and structural plans for compliance with the Building Codes and the ADA Requirements

  • Reviews thestructuraldesignofallstructurestoconfirmthateachstructureiscapable of supporting the design loads associated with the intended use

  • Calculates permit fees in accordance with the approved fee schedule


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the engineering or related scientific field determined by the requirements of the position (e.g., civil, environmental, architectural, mechanical, fire protection, or industrial).
    OR
  •  Four (4) years of professional experience in construction, electrical, mechanical, or fire prevention work.

Conditions of Employment:  Upon selection, the candidate must: 

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.

  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.

  • May be required to successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, motor vehicle background check and drug screenings, where applicable.

  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
