POSITION PURPOSE: The Chaplain & Pastoral Care Intern is responsible for a ministry of presence for hospital visitation, shut-in care, shepherding senior adults, directing funerals and being a point of contact for those planning weddings at Christ Presbyterian Church. 

POSITION HELD BY: Vacant

POSITION HOURS: Full Time (Sunday - Thursday)

DIRECT REPORT: Director of Care  

Role Specific Outcomes/Expectations:

  • To report weekly to Pastor of Congregational Care and Director of Care on chaplain contacts with all demographics of congregants, especially those who are ill, hospitalized, shut-in, grieving, or otherwise chronically absent from worship and community life. The general expectation is at least 5 visits per week, and normally at least 1 hospital visit.
  • To develop a process of interaction with the Pastor of Congregational Care and Director of Care to ensure there exists a robust linkage between the needs of these communities listed in the weekly report, and the coverage provided by and included in the Chaplains scope of responsibilities.
  • To facilitate and direct funerals alongside the bereavement team.  This includes, but is not limited to:
  1. Supporting the Pastor of Congregational Care in his role with the funeral
  2. Oversee the family funeral meetings that occur for planning, and creating the service/memorial bulletins  
  3. Updating the member profiles, or alerting those managing the database, when deaths occur. 
  4. Work closely with staff and facilities to ensure a hospitable, intelligible, God honoring funeral.
  • Be the point of contact for those planning weddings at Christ Presbyterian Church. This includes, but is not limited to:
  1. Supporting Pastor of Congregational Care in his role with weddings. 
  2. Work closely with staff and facilities to ensure a hospitable, intelligible, God honoring wedding ceremony.
  3. Ensure the space reservation document is completed and finance gets any billing information for space rental.
  • To co-facilitate a learning group as a gathering place for senior adults.  Keep oversight and care for our senior pilgrims’ group along with being the point person for senior fitness..  In addition, to be the primary liaison between seniors and staff. Continue to develop a senior ministry in alignment and engagement with the mission and values of CPC.
  • To attend and engage in gatherings in which organized prayer is taking place in the life of the church and the community. 
  • Working closely with the care coordinator to guarantee the database's accuracy as it pertains to changes such as births, deaths and any changes in membership that the elders find in shepherding their flock.
  • Updating and emailing elder sheets to our elders three times a year, providing them with the correct information to care for their flock. Replacing the master OHB elder sheet in the shared drive three times per year, coinciding with our new member joining days.
  • Stay in communication with the elder group about the care of their flock and additional care needed. 

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Equivalent Experience considered 

Experience

  • Consistent, proven history of sharing the gospel and leading others to Christ through relationships and programming.
  • At least 3 years church experience preferred
  • At least 2 years working with evangelistic and missional ministry, or equivalent

Skills, Abilities, and Attributes

  • Proven gift and passion for evangelism and outreach
  • Proven gift and passion for hospitality and connecting/networking with people
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with a missionally-oriented approach to life and ministry
  • Proven successes in bringing Christians and non-Christians together in meaningful dialog
  • Administrative and Organizational skill
  • Love for and ability to connect with strangers
  • Places high value on community, life together, as well as mission and service to others

Requirements

  • Membership at Christ Presbyterian Church will be required
