Scope and responsibilities

Oaktree is looking for a junior lawyer to join their London team on a 12-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.  The successful candidate will be focusing primarily on corporate matters and fundraising.

The position will work with colleagues in our offices globally, primarily London, Los Angeles, Luxembourg and Hong Kong.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Corporate matters in EMEA and APAC:

    • Advise on and manage corporate projects, such as internal group re-organizations;

    • Monitor and address regulatory developments;

    • Negotiate corporate vendor contracts;

    • Provide litigation support;

    • Advise on data protection and privacy matters;

    • Advise on employment and HR matters; and

    • Participate in cross-departmental working groups to implement new initiatives.

  • Fundraising and set-up of our open-ended investment funds (including UCITS) in Luxembourg:

    • Structure funds to address tax, legal and regulatory concerns;

    • Prepare offering and constitutional documents;

    • Negotiate placement agent and distribution agreements;

    • Negotiate credit facilities and other ancillary agreements;

    • Coordinate with and advise other departments regarding operational implications of documents;

    • Assist Marketing in addressing legal questions from prospects; and

  • Advise on local marketing rules in EMEA and APAC.

Experience required

  • 2-4 years PQE with a law firm and/or within the financial services or asset management industries;

  • Ideal skillset: commercial, corporate, finance;

  • Familiarity and ability to review, revise and draft contracts is required;

  • Exceptional English writing, drafting and communication skills are required;

  • Proven capability in analyzing complex data, evaluating information and drawing logical conclusions;

  • Demonstrated ability to identify key issues.

  • Good business judgment and aware of when it is necessary to escalate issues.

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree from a top university or college and legal qualification is required.
