Position Overview

• In the need to work interdependently with teachers, school, and district leaders throughout the system, aligning the work of adults around improving student learning by meeting the needs, interests, and aspirations of students;
• In the need to work in partnership with staff to continuously improve practices to enhance student and family engagement, creating the conditions for equity, excellence and student success; and
• In meeting students’ academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success

Primary Responsibilities

• Deliver individual and small-group counseling to address academic, emotional, social, and behavioral concerns.
• Conduct classroom lessons and school-wide initiatives promoting social-emotional learning, conflict resolution, and positive behavioral skills.
• Analyze and use student data (academic, attendance, behavioral) to identify needs and tailor counseling interventions.
• Serve as a liaison between students, families, school staff, and community agencies—including social services and special education.
• Participate in crisis intervention, support networks, and referrals for students in need.
• Collaborate in school teams (e.g., SST, 504, IEP), consult with educators, and support transitions (e.g., to middle school).
• Maintain confidentiality and act ethically while supporting students’ well-being.
• Engage in professional development and align counseling efforts with the school’s mission and Minnesota educational standards.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferences

• A Bachelors Degree (Master’s preferred) degree in School Counseling or related field.
• Minnesota State Certification in Elementary School Counseling and relevant background clearances
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
