Job Summary
The Custodial/Grounds Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising custodial and grounds operations across the district. This position ensures that all school facilities and grounds are maintained in a clean, safe, functional, and welcoming condition, supporting a positive environment for students, staff, and the community. The supervisor enforces custodial standards, directs staff, oversees vendor contracts, and ensures compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Staff Leadership and Oversight

Manage daily operations of custodial and grounds personnel, including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating staff.
Provide hands-on leadership and coaching to promote a high-performance culture.
Conduct regular inspections to verify quality of work and compliance with district standards.
Work closely with building administrators to support school operations, activities, and special events.
Address personnel matters professionally, including attendance, performance, discipline, and conflict resolution.

Custodial Operations

Knowledge and experience operating Facilities Automation Systems
Oversee cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and other facilities.
Manage custodial supply inventory, ordering, distribution, and storage.
Assist with custodial tasks during emergencies, special projects, or staff shortages.
Oversee and evaluate custodial services provided by external vendors.
Supervise all custodial staff (custodians and cleaning technicians).

Grounds Maintenance

Direct the upkeep of district grounds, including landscaping, athletic fields, parking lots, sidewalks, and green spaces.
Coordinate snow and ice removal operations to ensure safety and accessibility.
Monitor compliance with chemical usage regulations
Supervise all grounds/maintenance staff.
Perform or assist with grounds work as needed.

Facilities Safety and Compliance

Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with all applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations.
Participate on the district safety committee and support building emergency preparedness, including drills and inspections.
Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, safety reports, and supply inventories.

Other Responsibilities

Support development and management of custodial and grounds budgets.
Utilize district work order and inventory software to manage operations and communications.
Remain available for after-hours emergencies or weather-related issues.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Successful supervisory or lead experience in custodial or grounds maintenance preferred.
Leadership skills to foster a positive and product culture.
Strong knowledge of custodial/grounds practices, procedures, and equipment.
Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety codes and regulations.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift and transport equipment or materials as needed (in accordance with safety guidelines).
Valid Ohio driver’s license and insurable driving record.
Must pass BCI/FBI background check.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Regular physical activity including walking, bending, lifting, and operating equipment.
Occasional extended hours for emergencies, snow removal, or special events.

Salary: As per negotiated salary schedule
Starting Date: October 2025, start date is negotiable
