About the Department
Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Lead Instructor the RiverRink Ice Skating Instructor is primarily responsible for organizing, leading, and instructing learn-to-skate classes at the City of Monona's RiverRink outdoor ice skating rink. Classes may include beginner and intermediate level ice skating, figure skating, and basic hockey skating skills.
This is a seasonal position, beginning in November 2025 and ending in March 2026. Classes are taught on weekday late afternoons / early evenings, and on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Position Duties
The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.
- Organize, lead, and teach basic ice-skating skills, figure skating skills, and/or hockey skills for the appropriate classes with an emphasis on safety and fun
- Set up for classes and help with clean-up after classes
- Track and evaluate student progress and performance as needed.
- Attend in-house training sessions
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 14 years of age
- Must be skilled at ice skating
- Must have knowledge or experience with the organization and supervision of skating school classes
- Must have experience working with children ages 3 and above, as well as adults
- Must be able to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
Other Qualifications
- Must be able to work standing or skating for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work in outdoor conditions, including cold, wind, snow, and sleet.
- Must have the ability to see in order to supervise skaters, along with the ability to effectively communicate instructions to students.
