Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is the hands-on lead for day-to-day accounting operations at Goodwill Industries of Tulsa. The role owns the monthly close process, manages program billing, maintains restricted fund records, and executes routine tax and cash management duties. Working under the direction of the Controller, the Senior Accountant ensures the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, supports audit readiness, drives process improvements, and mentors staff—all while upholding Goodwill’s mission and values.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Execute daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities; prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and ensure GAAP compliance.
• Produce draft balance sheet, income statement, cash‑flow, and variance analyses for Controller review; investigate discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare monthly &quarterly billing for Mission services and other fee‑for‑service programs; monitor restricted‑fund spending and compliance with donor and contract terms.
• Perform bank reconciliations to ensure accurate alignment between cash records and bank statements.
• Prepare and file state and local sales, use, and payroll tax returns; maintain tax calendars and documentation.
• Support the audit process by compiling Prepared by Client (PBC) schedules, coordinating document requests across departments, and assisting with auditor inquiries under the direction of the Controller.
• Test controls across AP, AR, inventory, and fixed assets; document findings and drive automation initiatives.
• Monitor and streamline accounting functions, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and auditing of payroll and benefit plans, to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Oversee annual financial and benefit plan audits, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting principles.
• Aid in the preparation of filing the Form 990 report, Form 5500, and other required reporting.
Other Job Functions:
• Support payroll and accounts payable/receivable reconciliations.
• Assist with annual budget preparation and periodic re‑forecasts.
• Support cross-functional finance projects as directed by the Controller, providing technical expertise, data analysis, and process documentation
• Train, schedule, and review work of Accountants.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all Goodwill policies, including safety, ethics, and EEO.
• Other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA or CMA credential preferred, active progress toward certification highly desirable.
Other Requirements:
• 5+ years progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit or government‑funded environment; supervisory experience required.
• Advanced knowledge of GAAP, fund/grant accounting, internal control frameworks, and reconciliation techniques.
• Proficiency with ERP/GL systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP, Blackbaud, Sage Intacct) and advanced Excel skills.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret complex regulations, meet strict deadlines, and communicate financial information to non‑financial audiences.
• Experience preparing state/local payroll and sales‑tax filings.
• Payroll experience required.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record (occasional local travel to retail or program sites).
• Successful completion of background check and drug screening.
• Ability to maintain Goodwill’s Drug‑Free Workplace and safety‑sensitive standards.
