Join Our Team as a Pop Up Bartender at HI USA New York City Hostel!
HI NYC is launching a new bar concept, starting with a series of pop-up events in our historic hostel space. These events are our chance to test ideas, build the atmosphere, and create a welcoming experience for guests from around the world.
We’re looking for someone who’s excited to be part of something from the ground up. This role goes beyond bartending — you'll help shape the space through music, lighting, drink menus, and guest interaction. If you’re someone who brings a positive vibe, enjoys connecting with people, and likes having a say in how things are built and run, this could be a great fit.
You’ll be part of a small team that values creativity, collaboration, and flexibility. There’s also potential for this role to evolve into a supervisor position as our bar project grows.
Position Details:
Pay: $11-16.50 per hour + tips
Type: Seasonal/Temporary, 30–35 hours per week
Shifts: Evening and weekend availability required

Responsibilities:
- Help set the tone at each event by supporting bar setup, atmosphere, and flow
- Serve beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages with quality, speed, and a welcoming spirit
- Engage travelers and locals in friendly, inclusive interactions that create community
- Assist with bar breakdown and storage after events
- Support special programming like live music, themed nights, and seasonal gatherings
- Work with the Project Manager to test new menus and service systems
- Handle cash and credit transactions accurately
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized bar area following health and safety standards
Skills/Qualifications:
- 1+ year of bartending, event, or catering service experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with international guests
- Reliable, flexible, and excited to help build something new
- Comfort with fast-paced, event-style service and setup/tear-down duties
- Ability to work independently and as part of a creative team
- Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required
- Bonus: experience in event coordination or hospitality leadership
- ServSafe or Food Handler’s Certificate helpful but not required
Physical Requirements:
- Requires frequent physical activity including lifting and moving heavy objects.
