About the Department


PAY & BENEFITS: 
Pay begins at $45,032.11 annually and is and is dependent upon applicable experience.
In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.

Description
This classification is performs various types of clerical work of average difficulty for  the police department. Duties and responsibilities include maintenance of the police records system, entering, reviewing, and modifying data entered into police database, providing customer service for citizens at the police department, answering telephone calls, working with other local, state, and national law enforcement agencies in the exchange and verification of criminal records, processing fees. Reports to Police Captain.

Position Duties

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, management reserves the right to revise the job. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Enters, retrieves, reviews or modifies data in police department's computer system; performs data entry functions by keying data into computer; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, or other programs; performs basic maintenance of computer system and office equipment, such as backing up data or replacing paper, ink, or toner; coordinates service/repair activities as needed.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality concerning information contained in all police reports.
  • Performs customer service functions; provides information/assistance regarding department services involving court dates, traffic tickets, accidents, arrests, case files, insurance claims; and procedures, and fees related to such issues; distributes forms/documentation/reports as requested in accordance with police department policy; responds to routine questions, complaints or requests for service; initiates problem resolution.
  • Prepares and maintain case files for presentation in court by officers.
  • Receives and account for monies collected for report copies. 
  • Assists in ordering supplies, materials and other commodities and maintain inventory of stored items.
  • Performs reception functions; answers telephone calls and greets visitors; ascertains nature of business, directs callers/visitors to appropriate personnel, and records/relays messages; initiates and returns calls as necessary.
  • Plans, coordinates and assists in special projects and events.
  • Accurately files and maintains vast amounts of documents and records.
  • Promotes the teamwork environment. Assists coworkers when necessary.
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of Age
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (per TBI)
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation with no felony convictions
  • Must have Two (2) years of clerical or office experience in law enforcement, courts, or legal administration
  • Ability to read and speak Spanish is preferred. 
  • Must be able to attend training and maintain any applicable state certifications (e.g. T.I.B.R.S., N.C.I.C.)
