About the Department
The Judicial Assistant 1 is a non-civil service position appointed by the General Sessions Court, Division VII Judge for his court.
Position Duties
Open court proceedings with the appropriate announcement as required by law and court protocol. Provide directions and information to courthouse staff, attorneys, litigants, and the public in a professional and respectful manner. Perform varied administrative tasks, including scheduling, correspondence, and case-related file keeping. Serve judicial subpoenas or warrants in accordance with applicable laws and procedures. Prepare the courtroom for hearings and other proceedings. Maintain security and order in the courtroom. Facilitate the accurate completion and processing of a variety of court documents. Contact attorneys, bonding companies, and other court personnel as directed by the Judge. Conduct research and gather information for the Judge. Maintain accurate records and disseminate information as necessary. Render first aid when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Security and Administrative background required.
LICENSES REQUIRED
Handgun Permit and compliance with the conditions of the Metropolitan Government's policy 6.7-1 covering employees who carry firearms as a requirement of the job.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
