Position:            Bartender
Department:      Food and Beverage
Job Summary:   Provides beverage service to guests in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner
                          displaying a high standard of guest service.

 

Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

  1. Offers warm and sincere welcome/farewell to guests using a guest’s name, when possible, and making good eye contact.
  2. Communicates with guests using clear and enthusiastic words, tone, and body language at all times.
  3. Makes guests feel appreciated through actions; offers assistance before it is requested.
  4. Anticipates guests’ needs by being alert to signals such as their raising a hand; acknowledges guests so they know the signal was observed.
  5. Mixes, garnishes, and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for guests following standard recipes.
  6. Rings drink orders into point-of-sale system immediately, collecting money for drinks served, and making change.
  7. Works with others to keep all areas cleaned and stocked in accord with departmental standards at all times.
  8. Performs opening and closing inventories of spirits.
  9. Teams with others to maintain an effective atmosphere and an efficient beverage service.
  10. Teams with others to maintain an attractive bar display in accord with departmental standards.
  11. Ensures cleanliness of the bar area and glassware.
  12. Complies with State alcohol server requirements.
  13. Follows established safety and security policies and procedures including reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions immediately to a supervisor.
  14. Ensures uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional.
  15. Resolves guest complaints in a diplomatic and level headed manner quickly, professionally, and effectively.
  16. Requests supervisor assistance when needed for an uncooperative guest or when unable to fulfill a request. 
  17. Demonstrates positive, interpersonal skills with guests and team members.
  18. Functions as a supportive team member during shifts.
  19. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits as well as standard drink recipes.
  2. Knowledge of applicable health standards and workplace safety procedures.
  3. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as well as Sol Casinos’ internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  4. Proficiency with point-of-sale systems.
  5. Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  6. Strong communication skills.
  7. Skill in working courteously with the public as well as developing and maintaining strong working relationships.
  8. Basic reading skills.
  9. Ability to operate all equipment used at the bars, such as blenders and cash terminals.
  10. Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  11. Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  12. Ability to cheerfully handle stress in a fast paced environment.
  13. Ability to effectively multitask.
  14. Ability to perform mathematical computations pertaining to the position.
  15. Ability to maintain the physical stamina required, including an ability to stand for long periods.
  16. Ability to lift up to twenty (20) pounds, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  17. Ability to work in a smoking environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Certification from an accredited or state licensed bartending school OR one (1) year bartending experience OR two (2) years bar back experience, including a combination of one (1) year guest service and money handling experience.   
  2. Must be 18 years of age.
  3. Computer proficiency with point-of-sale systems.
  4. Must either possess or obtain valid Food Handler’s and Alcohol Awareness cards within three (3) months of employment.
  5. Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, special events, and overtime, as needed.
  6. Must be able to work in a smoking environment.
  7. Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  8. Must be able to obtain, maintain, and retain a valid gaming license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. One (1) year high volume bar experience.
  2. Bilingual (English/Spanish)
