The Employment Navigators prioritize the jobseekers' needs, support them to connect to appropriate employment and training services, collaborate with the workforce system to connect with employers in need of skilled workers, and ensure that referrals for services are effective for job seekers. The Employee Navigator prepares individuals for the job search and work. At a minimum, they must support job seekers in conducting a job search, resume development, interviewing skills, understanding employer expectations, and using career exploration tools. Strategies to help individuals find training or education services that support their employment and career goals.
Requirements
- Conducting comprehensive and trauma-informed assessments of job seekers referred from a shelter/TH/RRH to establish their employment goals.
- Working with job seekers to co-create an employment plan for reaching their goals and providing support to job seekers to follow through on their plan, secure necessary support services, persist in training or education programs and retain employment.
- Coordinating with housing case managers at the shelter, TH, or RRH program to ensure that job seekers are fully supported in reaching their employment goals and to ensure that all supportive service needs are met.
- Knowledge of occupational skills training to prepare participants for careers that are traditionally non-academic and are directly related to a specific trade, occupation or vocational skills leading to proficiency in performing actual tasks and technical functions.
- Providing job seekers with the opportunity to connect with workforce organizations across the community, including connections to different service models (e.g., transitional jobs, pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs, individual placement and support, employment preparation and placement, industry-specific training, etc.) supported by a variety of funding streams (e.g., WIOA, Employment and Training/SNAP to Success, TANF WorkFirst, DRS and Supported Employment, city or county workforce programs, etc.). Employment Navigators must have a thorough understanding of the workforce system and services in the COC area, including programs funded by public system partners.
- Entrepreneurial training prepares entrepreneurs to either start a small business or expand an existing business, usually through the development of a business plan.
- Encourage adult education including GED or high school completion programs, English language learning, and integrated education and training programs. Adult education services can be provided as part of work-based learning or occupational skills training.
- Responsible for helping individuals find appropriate work readiness, training, and/or support services.
- Develop strategies designed to help job seekers follow through on their employment plans.
- Work with 15 – 25 individuals at any given time for an average of 9 months.
- Provide on-going assessment of employment-related barriers, access to Barrier Reduction Fund and connection to services.
- Weekly meetings with individual clients and Housing Case Manager.
QUALIFICATION:
- Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree in non-profit management, business, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with career counseling, group facilitation and employment training
- Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, proof of insurance
- Proven leadership experience in the non-profit sector with a demonstrated track record of success
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities.
- Passion for the organization's mission and commitment to its values.
- Experience and success in motivating, recruiting, developing, retaining, and mentoring high performance, mission-driven, and results-oriented teams.
- HMIS System a plus.
- Strong leadership skills and motivational ability.
- Exhibit well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills and offer innovative and creative solutions that lead to significant improvements for clientele.
- Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use stairs, reach with hands and arms balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
