About the Employer

The Torrance Unified School District consists of 17 elementary, 8 middle, 4 high schools, 1 continuation, and 1 alternative high school. The District also has 3 adult school campuses. Torrance Unified was established in 1947 and unified in 1948, and is nestled in the heart of the South Bay, in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County. Our District is bordered by the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the south, the beach cities - Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beach - to the west, and the cities of Lawndale and Hawthorne to the north. The District serves the entire City of Torrance and is governed by five school board members from five trustee areas. Required Documents

Must qualify for or possess a valid California Designated Subjects Special Subjects teaching credential authorizing ROTC instruction. If no credential is held, the candidate will be required to obtain a recommendation for a California Designated Subjects Special Subjects: ROTC teaching credential from a Commission-approved university program. In addition, the candidate must obtain an English learner authorization after employment within the time frame set forth by the District. Other certification: Must have ROTC, and Army Instructor Certification prior to start date.

Requirements— • Certification (Verification of ROTC Army Instructor Certification) • Copy of Transcript • Letter of Introduction • Resume Each Junior ROTC instructor applicant must— - Be a citizen of the United States without ties that would reasonably influence the instructor to act in favor of a foreign country or a person bound to a country having basic or critical interests opposed to those of the United States. - Have no record of conviction by court-martial, no record of time lost-to-be-made-good under 10 USC 972, and no record of civilian convictions except for minor traffic offenses. - Have been discharged under honorable conditions from all previous enlistments and prior service, if any, prior to employment. This does not preclude applications from personnel serving on active duty who are eligible for retirement or are within 6 months of retirement. - If enlisted (personnel serving on active duty or retired personnel), have a high school diploma. Preferably a minimum of an associate’s degree from an accredited institution (see para 4–13). - If an officer has a baccalaureate degree. If a warrant officer has a baccalaureate degree, they are eligible to serve as an SAI. - Be a retired Soldier in the grade of E6 through O6. - Not have been retired from the Army for more than 5 years at the time of initial employment. - Meet USACC instructor qualification fitness and appearance standards as outlined in CCR 145–2. Personnel not meeting these standards may be considered for approval on a case-by-case basis by the CG, USACC, or their designee. - Possess the following attributes to successfully perform the duties of the position, consistent with Federal law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (see Public Law 101–336).
