Duties

As an Electronics Technician, you will perform the following duties: The ZT-03 position is developmental leading to the full performance level of ZT-04. Altering and using complex technical equipment or software or modifying and conducting complex tests and recording and disseminating results. Providing technical supervision over a significant workload of mission supporting scientific and engineering work. Designs, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance of electronic equipment. Modifies assignments to accommodate new factors, alter equipment and techniques for new uses, and coordinate several parts of an assignment. Provides highly specialized technical support for scientific or engineering research or performs program operations work under initial guidance on project scope and requirements. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Electronics Technician ZT-0856-3, ZT-04 positions within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience. This position is also advertised under NTIA-ITS-MP-25-12785680, which is open to Merit Promotion/Direct Hire eligible applicants. Requirements

You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position. You must successfully pass a background investigation. This may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use of possession of drugs. A probationary period may be required. Qualifications

Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. This handbook is available on the Office of Personnel Management's website located at: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=Occupational-Series Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. This position is being filled under the Department of Commerce Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). Under CAPS, positions are classified by career path and pay band. For the ZT-03 (GS-9/10), you must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower grade/level of a ZT-02 or GS-07 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Operating radiofrequency test and measurement equipment as well as antennas/antenna systems, Performing maintenance of electronic systems and equipment, AND Advising engineers on developing new and or adapting existing equipment. OR Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. A. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. (Transcript Required) OR B. Combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
