The Equipment Services Co-op position is designed for high school seniors enrolled in an approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.
Co-Op Structure
A mentor will be assigned and will work with each student for the duration of the co-op. The shop supervisor will provide work assignments, training and general oversight of the student. Students will comply with all cooperative education requirements from their school.
Assignment Overview
Students will gain hands on experience, both in shop and in field, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining equipment. Students will take their classroom experiences and apply them in hands on work assignments. This involves the ability to plan out a repair task, listen to instructions, observe and learn from experienced Coworkers to safely perform work.
Duties & Position Responsibilities
NESL’s Equipment Services team perform repairs and preventive maintenance to ensure that operations has reliable equipment. Every team member is responsible for maintaining housekeeping and organization of the work area as well as following NESL’s policies and procedures. Each student will have the responsibility to stop work if something is unsafe.
- Learn and follow the preventative maintenance requirements on each piece of equipment to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
- Troubleshoot issues and repair damaged or malfunctioning equipment. This may require reading and understanding drawings, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, engineering specifications, and other troubleshooting methods.
- Learn and assist in the inspection and repair process. This includes the various components related to the mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Perform all work according to OSHA / MSHA safety policies.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a high school CTE program in diesel mechanics, agricultural equipment mechanics, or related study.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain a safe and clean environment.
