About the Department
Basic Purpose of the Job:
Under direction of the City Engineer, responsible for a variety of civil engineering support functions to include construction inspection, surveying, database management, drawing preparation, and MS4 storm water program implementation.
Position Duties
Essential Functions:

- Conduct inspections and compliance testing of municipal infrastructure and utility projects to ensure compliance with engineering plans and City standards. Work with contractors and project design teams to address any issues identified during inspections and prepare construction inspection reports/recordkeeping documents.
- Perform as-built surveying of installed infrastructure using GPS survey equipment and enter as-built data into AutoCAD drawings and ArcGIS databases.
- Assist with the maintenance of engineering-related record-keeping systems and databases.
- Assist with project designs by performing site surveys using GPS survey equipment, preparing site base maps, and assisting with civil plan preparation/drafting using AutoCAD software.
- Assist with data collection for traffic-operation studies.
- Assist with implementation of the City's MS4 storm water program by performing site inspections, illicit discharge investigations, and review of storm water management plans. Coordinate with contractors to address any issues identified during inspections and prepare inspection reports.
- Provide engineering-related technical assistance and consultations with other public works departments.

Minimum Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- Two years of college-level or technical training in engineering, drafting, construction management, or survey fields and two years of related experience.
- Knowledge of basic civil engineering principles/practices and basic surveying methods.
- Proficiency in basic engineering mathematics to include algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Organizational and document management skills; ability to manage projects; complete and thoroughly document all inspections.
- Knowledge of regulatory issues, materials testing, and construction standards.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret a variety of engineering, planning, and governmental documents, including subdivision plats, development plans, public improvement construction plans, and storm water management plans.
- Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of sediment and erosion controls and best management practices to mitigate pollutant discharges into drainage systems.
- Ability to adjust to changing work conditions and unexpected assignments.
- Computer Skills: AutoCAD drafting software, ArcGIS software, MS Office Suite, and asset management software.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with the City team as well as contractors and members of the public.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- CDOT Erosion Control Supervisor, OCPO Water Distribution Level 1 Certification, OCPO Sewer Collection Level 1 Certification, or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment. It should be noted that the City will reimburse for class and testing fees associated with these certifications upon successful completion.
- Current Colorado Drivers License with acceptable record.
Moderate physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds, installing or removing rock socks, sweeping, picking up trash, opening manhole lids, etc.; carrying, walking, and standing, hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees, contractors, property owners, and citizens. This position requires approximately 70% field work and 30% office.
