The Detention Center Dentist will provide professional dental care to incarcerated individuals within the facility. This role ensures the delivery of essential dental services, focusing on preventative care, diagnosis, treatment, and education to maintain oral health. The position operates in compliance with all legal, safety, and ethical standards.
Flexible schedule 12 hours a week needed.
Key Responsibilities
Dental Care Services
- Perform routine dental examinations, including assessment of oral health conditions, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Conduct procedures such as fillings, extractions, and other minor dental surgeries.
- Provide emergency dental care as required.
Preventative and Educational Services
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and preventative dental care.
- Recommend appropriate follow-up care and treatment to address ongoing dental issues.
Recordkeeping and Compliance
- Maintain accurate patient records, including diagnosis, treatment plans, and progress.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including infection control and safety protocols.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with the detention center’s healthcare staff to provide coordinated care.
Communicate effectively with facility administration regarding the needs of the dental program.

Professional Conduct

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Education: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) from an accredited institution.
Licensure: Valid and unrestricted state dental license.
Experience: Prior experience in correctional healthcare, public health, or underserved populations is preferred but not required.
Skills: Strong diagnostic, clinical, and communication skills; ability to work in a secure environment.
