About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Administrative Assistant I in the Human Resources department. The main responsibilities of this position include assisting the department in administrative activities by performing a variety of administrative and technical functions. Work is often characterized by its variety, time-sensitive and confidential nature, requiring excellent customer service and critical thinking skills. You are also responsible for interacting with employees, applicants and the community. You must exercise independent judgment and discretion in initiating and completing assignments; handling complex situations requiring considerable tact and knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, and programs.
What you’ll be doing:
Process HR documentation (e.g., employee records, benefits forms, performance evaluations).
Enter data into computer systems (e.g., employee database, payroll system).
Provide customer service (e.g., answer HR questions, distribute forms, resolve complaints).
Process incoming/outgoing mail (e.g., sort, open, distribute, scan, and send mail).
Operate office equipment (e.g., send and receive faxes, replenish paper supply).
Perform clerical support (e.g., type and send emails, copy and distribute documents).
Communicate with stakeholders (e.g., HR leaders, employees, vendors, customers).
Use computer applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, databases) to complete work tasks).
Performs related work assignments as required.

Hiring Rate: $20.37

About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree preferred.
Experience: Supplemented by one year of experience in customer service, clerical work, or administrative support; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Human Resources experience preferred.
Certification: Public Notary (preferred).
