About the Department

THE DEPARTMENT/DIVISION

The Administrative Services Technician position will be assigned to the City’s Risk Management Division, which is a part of the Administrative Services Department.  The Risk Management Division is responsible for administering the City’s active and retiree group health benefits programs, self-insured general liability and workers’ compensation programs, the City’s safety program, and leaves of absence.   Risk Management is comprised of a Manager, a Management Analyst who serves as the City’s Safety Officer, and an Administrative Services Technician.

Position Duties

THE POSITION

The position will be responsible for a variety of administrative and customer service duties, including records management, creating, maintaining, and updating various reports, assisting employees and retirees with their group health benefit enrollments, working with the City’s third-party administrators for various programs assigned to Risk Management, investigating and administering general liability claims, administering various leaves of absence in according with state and federal law, and working with employees, departments and our workers’ compensation administrator to process workers’ compensation claims. The position will also assist the City’s Safety Officer with various duties for the safety program and may assist the Human Resources Division with various Human Resources-related tasks. 

Minimum Qualifications

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this position will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and provide excellent customer service to the City’s internal and external customers. They will have the ability to clearly communicate the City’s benefits to employees, retirees, and their dependents.  They will have the ability to work with various departments within the city to gather information used to process our general liability and workers' compensation claims.  The candidate will need to have strong written and oral communication skills.  Prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines related to claims reporting is a must. The ideal candidate will work well with the public and be able to build and maintain cooperative working relationships with the City staff and the public.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
 
 Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and abilities would be:

  • Four years of increasingly responsible administrative and/or supervisory clerical experience.
