About the Department

The Dance Assistant receives work direction from the Dance Coordinator, but is supervised by the Recreation Supervisor. The Dance Assistant will assist with teaching dance skills, lead groups of dancers in basic lessons, and provide support to the Dance Instructor. 
 
This position is responsible for assisting in teaching dance skills to Roseville School of Dance participants. Assistants are responsible for helping teach various dance skills including: creative movement, ballet, and tap for young dancers.  They will also lead various dance lessons, work with individual and small groups of students, complete appropriate paperwork and attendance lists, assist in choosing music and choreographing recital dances, and attending and helping run the annual spring recital.

Position Duties

  • Assist with dance classes using age & ability appropriate skills.
  • Demonstrate exemplary conduct and maintain a professional demeanor, ensuring appropriate and respectful behavior when interacting with youth participants in the Roseville School of Dance program.
  • Use appropriate classroom management skills
  • Use age appropriate language and music to teach class, leading with a positive attitude
  • Assist in choosing recital costumes/wear
  • Lead in a professional & courteous manner with the highest regard to the customer
  • Attend required staff meetings designated by Dance Coordinator 
  • Assist in the planning, choreography and execution of dance performances for recital
  • Work as a team player with co-workers & in conjunction with other programs
  • Record weekly attendance
  • Remain in communication with coordinator/instructors.
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules & guidelines of the departments safety program
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned or apparent
  • Continually shows respect for diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and interests. Exhibits sensitivity to the needs of diverse audiences in all duties performed on behalf of the City to support Roseville in building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working environment and community. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Comprehension of Ballet, Jazz, Tap & Lyrical and techniques & styles (hip hop if applicable)
  • Practice the principles of exceptional customer service, supporting the dance community and acting as a link between instructor and daily classes
  • Exhibit safety awareness & good judgement

Dance Assistant is responsible for varied technical, complex, and confidential functions.

Activities that occur rarely (do not exist as regular part of job): lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and grasping
