The primary duties and responsibilities of this position are:
- Processes and cares for subjects who are in custody for court proceedings by providing meals and contacting staff for medical issues, if needed.
- Verifying the identification of persons in custody
- Fingerprinting prisoners.
- Completes a variety of reports, prisoner counts, facility and vehicle inspections as part of documenting daily shift activities.
- Observes, inspects, and monitors jail conditions including the cleanliness and orderliness of jail cells in order to comply with prescribed operating and safety standards, and to safeguard against any potential hazards.

Candidates for the Detention Officer II position must possess:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of experience handling prisoners as a Detention Officer, Corrections Officer, Police Officer or other related classification OR one (1) year as a Town of Gilbert Detention Transport Trainee.
- Must be 21 years of age and have the ability to comply with Arizona P.O.S.T. firearms requirements.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Valid Arizona Driver's License
Successful candidates for the position will be required to undergo a thorough criminal justice background investigation to include psychological and polygraph examinations.
