Job Summary
The Commodity Unit of the Research Department of the IMF provides timely assessments of energy and commodity markets developments. It produces research to enhance understanding of commodity markets and commodity related issues. The candidate will, thus, contribute to a wide range of challenging policy issues related to commodities by providing macroeconomic research and analysis of macro-relevant policy issues, including macro-critical issues linked to energy transitions and climate change.
Major Duties and Responsibilities.
Monitoring commodity markets and being on top of major economic and geopolitical developments and their implications for commodity prices and policy. Inform the Unit Chief and senior staff of such developments.
Drafting briefs and memoranda for IMF management and senior staff; actively contributing original research to be published in the IMF working papers series and peer-reviewed journals; participating in conferences and joining seminars.
Maintaining contacts with counterparts in functional and area departments, the World Bank Group, and other international organizations. Pro-actively contributing to the research agenda of the Unit.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in macroeconomics or a related field such as monetary economics, financial economics, energy economics, international trade, or econometrics or a master’s degree in macroeconomics or related field with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience, is required. Prior knowledge of energy commodity markets and a proved publication record on peer-reviewed journals are a strong plus.
