Inside the Role
Electronics Service Engineers communicate with DTNA field representatives, addressing new Electronic, Hardware and Software Field Service Product Reports (FSPRs). The service engineers job is to “rate” the failure mode of the newly reported problem to understand its significance to customers and do further research to fully understand whether the failure mode is systemic. This may involve further discussions and review of data with Field staff, Warranty, Corporate Quality, CSG, and Aftermarket Parts staff. If the reported problem is “non-systemic, the service engineer works with field staff to ensure the issue is resolved for the customer. If the reported problem is systemic, a FRACAS will be written to assign an internal corrective action. The service engineer then becomes a member of the FRACAS team. When the problem reaches production Containment AND Long-term Corrective Action stages, the Service Engineer then determines whether field communication, beyond the production “clean dates” are necessary. Whether customers should be given further instruction to campaign trucks in the suspect population, or whether additional information should be communicated for the problem symptom via Technical Service Bulletin. If either is appropriate, the planned communication is initiated and the service engineer tracks the issue until publication.Posting Information
