Salary Grade/Plan:
Maintenance Support Tech III(A17): $42,976 - $64,496
Maintenance Support Tech IV(A19): $48,244 - $76,028

This position is for (1) Maintenance Office Tech III or IV. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Maintenance Office Tech III

Performs administrative support-related work in a maintenance office or district headquarters and for one or more projects and/or specialized programs. May serve as a lead worker. Work requires contact with high-level managers, executives, governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Maintenance Office Tech IV

Performs administrative support-related work in a maintenance office or district headquarters and for one or more projects and specialized programs. May serve as a lead worker. Work requires contact with high-level managers, executives, governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:
 Maintenance Office Tech III

  • Inputs and maintains daily production reports and compiles monthly reports for manager.
  • Answers the telephone, evaluates requests, answers questions, routes messages, and serves as receptionist or front desk assistant.
  • Composes and prepares correspondence and applicable recurring or special one-time reports and confidential and sensitive communications.
  • Conducts monthly spot inventories, verifies inventory findings, reconciles and coordinates with Business Services on adjustments needed.
  • Maintains materials inventory.
  • Maintains and updates office files/records/logs and a wide variety of automated systems in support of personnel, finance, budgeting, maintenance, inventory, contracts, purchasing, travel information, and permitting activities.
  • Processes receipts and invoices for payment.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Maintenance Office Tech IV

Duties above, as well as:

  • Trains other clerical or technical staff.
  • Provides technical assistance to others in using personal computer and/or software applications.
  • Coordinates with District Warehouse personnel on surplus property sales of miscellaneous items.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

 Maintenance Office Tech III

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 3 years in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.  Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

 Maintenance Office Tech IV

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 4 years in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.  Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
