PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Finance, the Director will lead and support the finance team in the areas of general ledger maintenance, internal controls, budget management, audit facilitation, financial reporting, compliance, and process efficiency. The Director will provide supervision and guidance to accounting staff positions and will work closely with the senior management, program staff, and all members of YWCA. Support and promote the YWCA's Mission, Purpose and One Imperative.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or industry-related field is required. Master’s degree, CPA, CMA or other industry credentials are highly desirable.
- A minimum of ten years of industry-related experience including five years in management and five years in a nonprofit setting is required.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software packages. Proficiency with Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of the federal Uniform Guidance (CFR 2, Part 200).
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry.
- Understanding of cost accounting and fund accounting, including net asset classification.
- Understanding of investments and endowments.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
- Ability to develop rapport with people of all levels in the organization. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff in the department.
Provides mentoring and direct supervision of financial accounting staff.
Provides mentoring and direct supervision of Associate Director of Finance.
Responsible for the following processes:
Payroll
Accounts Payable
Accounts Receivable
Month end close process
Balance Sheet reconciliations
Financial reporting and system queries
Credit Card processing
Audit planning and workpaper completion
Budget implementation in accounting system (Blackbaud)
Third party billing (childcare and therapy medical billing)
Internal control processes
Banking and treasury management
Cash flow management and revenue recognition
Provides oversight and ensures overall integrity of the department.
Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
POLICY AND STANDARDS
- In cooperation with the VP of Finance and the CEO, develops, maintains, and implements Association policies and procedures related to financial operations, accounting standards, and risk management.
- Provides leadership in the development and ongoing maintenance of efficient and effective finance department processes and systems.
BUDGET AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Implements approved budgets with regular analysis and reporting of performance, variance trends, and forecasting.
- Ensures the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports in accordance with Association policy and related requirements. Actively participate in the presentation of financial reporting to leadership.
- Provides training and education to appropriate staff in understanding financial management and reports.
- Manages all financial transactions and ensures the proper design and maintenance of the accounting system as well as accounting records and internal controls for cash disbursements, cash receipts, banking, investments, restriction classification, cost allocation and all other financial activities of the Association.
- Provides accurate and timely financial information concerning capital assets, endowments, reserves, functional accounting, restricted assets, cash flows and other reports as required.
- Acts in lead role in the facilitation of the Association’s annual financial audit and Form 990 preparation, as well as other financial review activities. Acts as liaison for the Association with audit and CPA contractors, ensure final implementation of recommendations, as approved by the Association. Achieves and maintains audit reports free of findings or material weakness.
- Ensures compliance with local, state and federal tax and other related requirements or regulations related to financial and business operations.
- Acts as primary point of contact for accounting software partners.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
