Do you enjoy driving and want a role that makes a real difference in our community? The District is looking for on-call drivers to operate our ULV Trucks (“spray/fog trucks”) during the mosquito season (primarily May through October). This part-time, evenings-only position helps protect public health by conducting ground spray missions in assigned areas. Shifts begin about an hour before sunset and usually wraps up between 11 PM and 1 AM, giving you flexibility while contributing to an important cause. Position Duties
- Conduct walk around pre-trip vehicle inspections and ensure all necessary supplies and materials are present to complete mission
- Conducts ground adulticiding spray missions in assigned areas
- Completes the assigned spray mission in accordance with established procedures
- Completes the Ground Adulticiding Worksheet for each spray mission, ensuring that the information is complete and correct
- Refills ULV truck with fuel at the end of the shift
- Documents and reports any mechanical problems with the ULV truck in accordance with established procedures
- Performs wash down procedure in accordance with established procedures
- Contacts the Supervisor, Ground Adulticiding regarding any issues or problems that occur during spray mission
- Responsible for wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Responsible for completing his/her time card on a daily basis
- Responsible for ensuring time card is correct and approved by 8:00 a.m. on payroll Mondays
- Communicate with the public in a professional and courteous manner and refer all inquiries that are outside area of expertise to the appropriate person at the District
- Follow all Districts Safety policies and procedures and comply with all local, state and federal regulations at all times
- Responsible for ensuring all assigned equipment is maintained and repaired as needed
- Other duties and projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to work a varied schedule during evening and nighttime hours including working on weekends
- Must be able to read and understand chemical label instructions in English
- Must have basic computer skills and have the ability to learn and operate internal, web based, GPS and mapping programs including entering data into databases
- Must have a valid Class E drivers license and a clean driving record
- Must pass the CORE and Public Health exams within six months of hire and be able to maintain certification by earning appropriate CEU’s (continuing education units). *On-Call ULV Truck Operators who earn their Public Health Pest Control License receive an increase of $1.02 per hour once they present the license to the District.

Physical Requirements: Light physical activity is required on an occasional basis including lifting, reaching for, pulling and carrying up to ten pounds, reaching with arms and hands, standing, sitting for long periods of time while driving a vehicle, walking and may be occasionally required to step up into the bed of the truck. Excellent vision, both close and distance, is frequently required.
Work Environment: The work environment varies but normally is in a vehicle. Occasional exposure to all types of weather is required. Frequent local travel is required. Noise level is usually low but occasional exposure to moderate noise levels will occur when around pony motors and a variety engines. Working with and around chemicals, which are stored, handled, applied/used and disposed of according to exact labeling instructions, is required frequently. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fuel, and fumes is required.
