Oral and Facial Surgery of the Shoals in Sheffield is seeking a skilled and committed Surgical Assistant to join our team and assist us in delivering exceptional care to our patients. Our core belief is putting the patient’s needs first, and it underlies every aspect of our practice.


The ideal candidate for the Surgical Assistant position should possess a natural inclination towards providing excellent care.


Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assisting the surgeon during a variety of surgical procedures 
  • Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols 
  • Taking dental x-rays of excellent, diagnostic quality
  • Reviewing patient Health History to ensure it is recorded accurately and completely 
  • Serving as an infection control officer, developing infection control protocol, and preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment 
  • Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after surgical treatment 
  • Providing patients with post-operative instructions for oral care following surgery or other oral treatment procedures, such as the placement of dental implants or extraction of third molars
  • Record doctor notes and vital sign information during a surgical procedure or office consultation
  • Performing office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer 
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential 

Requirements

  • 1+ years of  Dental Assistant or Surgery Assistant experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Certification or Associate Degree in an accredited Dental Assisting program preferred, but not required. 
  • Candidates with surgical and anesthesia assisting experience are preferred. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using computers for a variety of tasks. 
  • Detail oriented, punctual, and patient-care focused. 
  • Consistent professional appearance and attitude. 
  • Motivated to grow and learn. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
