PM&R Physician – Specializing in Addiction Medicine

Position Summary

EPIC Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled PM&R Physician with Addiction Medicine experience to join our interdisciplinary team. This unique role integrates physical rehabilitation with addiction treatment strategies—helping patients restore function, enhance mobility, and manage complex health challenges related to both physical impairments and substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with musculoskeletal, neurologic, functional impairments, and substance use disorders.

  • Develop and implement patient-centered rehabilitation and addiction treatment plans.

  • Collaborate with physical therapists, behavioral health specialists, addiction counselors, and other providers to ensure integrated care.

  • Perform and interpret procedures such as EMGs, joint injections, ultrasound-guided injections, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

  • Manage acute and chronic pain using non-surgical, evidence-based approaches that minimize reliance on opioids.

  • Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans to achieve recovery goals.

  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, addiction treatment options, rehabilitation goals, and recovery strategies.

  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the EMR system.

  • Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Optionally supervise advanced practice providers.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

  • Active and unrestricted Michigan medical license.

  • DEA license required.

  • Demonstrated experience in Addiction Medicine (formal training or clinical practice).

  • Experience with substance use disorder management and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) strongly preferred.

  • Fellowship training in pain medicine, sports medicine, spinal cord injury, brain injury, musculoskeletal medicine, or addiction medicine is a plus.


Preferred Skills & Attributes

  • Proficiency in diagnostic procedures such as EMG/NCS.

  • Experience in inpatient rehab, outpatient clinics, addiction treatment programs, or interventional procedures.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support patients in recovery.

  • Commitment to compassionate, stigma-free addiction care.

  • Ability to lead and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
