Description
We are seeking an experienced Director of Contracts to lead our contracts team in a fast-paced government contracting environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, be highly detail-oriented, customer-facing, and possess exceptional written communication skills. This role combines strategic contract management, team leadership, and client engagement to ensure the successful execution of government contracts while mentoring and developing a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of contract professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the full contract lifecycle, including proposal development, negotiations, compliance, administration, and closeout for government contracts.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on contractual matters, ensuring responsive and professional communication.
- Review, interpret, and advise on complex contract terms, regulations, and compliance requirements (FAR, DFARS, agency-specific guidelines).
- Proactively identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement within contracts.
- Ensure all deliverables meet rigorous standards for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
- Collaborate with internal teams (finance, legal, program management) to support business growth and ensure alignment with contract obligations.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance contract management and team performance.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7–10 years of government contracting experience, including contract management and negotiation.
- Proven experience leading and managing teams in a high-pressure environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex information clearly and professionally.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all work.
- Proactive mindset with a track record of anticipating challenges and implementing solutions.
- Knowledge of federal acquisition regulations (FAR/DFARS) and government contracting processes.
- Experience in customer-facing roles with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Contract certifications such as CPCM, CFCM, or CCCM.
- Experience using SAM (System for Award Management) and other government contract management systems.
- Experience managing and administering GSA Schedule contracts.
- Experience preparing and managing all small business subcontracting reports.
- Demonstrated leadership qualifications, including team development, performance management, and strategic planning.
- Ability to mentor and inspire a high-performing team in a collaborative and goal-oriented environment
The salary range for this position depends upon multiple factors including location, the individual's knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, and contract-specific budget constraints and organizational requirements.
