About the Department
Pottawattamie County Conservation is seeking enthusiastic and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as a Snowcat Operator for the upcoming ski season. This is a seasonal position that runs from December through March, or the duration of the ski season.
Position Duties
Groom terrain for skiing and riding
Responsible for consistent grooming, creating clean lines on the slopes and effectivelycleaning up pattern discrepancies that result in crooked lines and/or turn marks
Assist with moving snow in order to provide adequate snow coverage over skiable terrain
Ability to maintain grooming standards including at night on uneven terrain and in adverse weather conditions
Work closely and communicate with snow making team on snow conditions and timing of work performed
Perform general maintenance of the snowcats and inform supervisors of any issues
Ability to communicate, follow oral and written directions
Ability to work in collaboration with others to achieve team goals
Ability to remain focused, organized, flexible, and detail-oriented
Follows all safety policies and procedures and exercises caution when working

- Performs other duties as directed or as the situation dictates.
Minimum Qualifications
General knowledge of the principles and practices of conservation programs and related fields are preferred
General knowledge of heavy equipment and related components
Adequate ability in the use of common hand tools and power equipment regularly utilized for large equipment and vehicle maintenance
Demonstrated sound judgement in the safe and reliable operation of heavy equipment on steep, uneven terrain
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to multitask; ability to use strong interpersonal and customer service skills using tact, patience and courtesy; ability to pay close attention to detail and to effectively organize time and anticipate, plan and successfully respond to changing circumstances
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information
Ability to make arithmetic computations; experience in the use of maintenance logs
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, Board members, supervisors, and the general public
Other Qualifications
Must be 18 years or older
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience operating heavy equipment including uneven terrain and at night, preferred
