What we are looking for:


M-B is currently looking for an entry-level Traffic Management Center (TMC) Operator 1. TMC Operator 1 uses ITS devices such CCTV cameras and traffic detectors to monitor roadways within the City of Austin. Using project specific software, operators maintain an accurate real-time traffic incident status database and respond to traffic incidents. A preferred candidate will demonstrate an interest in intelligent transportation systems and have an associate degree (or higher) in science, engineering, or a related technical field; but all are welcome to apply.


This site is not accessible via public transportation; reliable transportation will be a requirement


How you’ll make an impact at M-B as a TMC Operator 1:

  • Manage traffic incidents and traffic signal information in accordance with applicable operating guidelines.
  • Detect and confirm scheduled or unscheduled traffic incidents and use the available information to adjust traffic signal schedules to account for changing roadway conditions.
  • Disseminate pertinent information to the public via Dynamic Message Signs, social media, email, and telephone  communications.
  • Report and obtain traffic incident status information to and from partnering agencies.
  • Prepare detailed documentation and reporting of traffic incident status and traffic signal conditions in accordance with applicable operating guidelines.
  • When necessary, provide outstanding customer service when responding to customer calls.
  • On-the-job training is provided.

Requirements

What it takes to be successful as a TMC Operator 1: 

  • Demonstrate an ability and interest in learning new computer programs while having experience with common computer programs such as Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrate an ability and interest in reading, interpreting, and communicating technical information. 
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to solve problems, prioritize duties, and complete required tasks effectively.  
  • Demonstrate an ability and interest in working as part of a team while also having the ability to work independently on specific assignments.
  • Have a willingness and ability to work on weekends, holidays, and for extended hours during the week. 
  • Have a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate (GED).
  • Have a valid driver’s license.
  • Successfully pass a background check and drug test before beginning employment.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Applicant will be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record Check. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving company or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct company business.
  • Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Safety impact employees will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing throughout his/her employment.
  • As part of its employment process, M-B may procure or have prepared a criminal background check. An applicant with an unsatisfactory criminal background check report is ineligible to be hired for the position for which the report is initiated.
  • If hired, applicant must provide document(s) within three (3) days of hire date that establish identity and employment eligibility. A complete list of acceptable documents is on file with the local Texas Workforce Commission office or http://www.twc.state.tx.us/.
