About the Department
This position is responsible for the appraisal of real property values in support of the assessment process.
Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, and specialized training in the field of work including college courses, certificate program, apprenticeship, etc.
Three (3) years of experience in the occupational field, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position. Such experience includes appraisal, real estate, construction trades or construction management. Relevant experience and/or skills may include: Hands-on knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and building systems. Property management or development: Familiarity with property value influences. Real estate sales or brokerage: Knowledge of market values, comparable sales, and local trends.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check.
Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) courses, ICS 100 and IS 700, within ninety (90) days of hire.
Other Qualifications
- Locates, measures, photographs, and inventories residential, commercial, industrial and personal property; interviews property owners to verify interior components and property conditions.
- Reviews all accounts for accuracy; inputs new information into the database, including sketches and photographs.
- Communicates with the general public by phone, email, and in person to answer questions, explain the assessment process, and resolve issues and conflicts.
- Confirms and presents written and oral defenses of assessed values at quasi-judicial hearings before a panel of board members.
- Reviews, analyzes and interprets fee appraisals, brokers' opinions of values, and other appraisal documents presented in support of assessed values.
- Responds and assists the Emergency Operation Center in assessing property affected by disasters.
- Performs related duties.
