Performs a broad range of secretarial, clerical, and administrative duties requiring detailed knowledge of complex office procedures. This is a fully experienced position, working independently under the general direction of the Chief of Current Development.

Performs a broad range of secretarial, clerical, and administrative duties requiring detailed knowledge of complex office procedures. This is a fully experienced position, working independently under the general direction of the Chief of Current Development.

Position Duties

    • Performs a variety of complex clerical and administrative tasks including operating general office equipment such as computers & associated peripherals, copy machines, scanners, and voice recording equipment.
    • Performs special projects or other duties as assigned by Chief of Current Development and or their designee.
    • Acts as the asset custodian for the Current Development Section.
    • Compiles packets for Planning & Zoning Commission (PZC), as well as other boards/committees. 
    • Communicates and interacts with the public, professional staff, and elected officials.
    • Maintains and updates logs, files, and records with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Maintains and provides quality control/oversight for Current Development electronic record keeping.
    • Obtains/researches information in order to complete reports, letters, records, etc.
    • Makes decisions, with oversight/support, based upon pertinent rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.
    • May assist the Chief of Current Development in the organization/daily operation of the Current Development Section.  
    • Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education/Experience:


    High School diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of five (5) years of working experience in a public or private sector office with governmental or planning office experience preferred. 


    An associate's degree may be substituted for two (2) years of the experience requirement.


    A bachelor's degree may be substituted for four (4) years of the experience requirement.


    Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:


    • None

    Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:


    Must possess excellent customer service skills with the ability to maintain a friendly demeanor. 

    Knowledge of office policies and procedures.

    Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database computer programs.

    Ability to operate various office equipment to include personal computers and various computer programs. 

    Ability to resolve conflict in a diplomatic manner.

    Ability to identify problems or situations as they occur and respond appropriately.

    Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. 

    Ability to analyze information and make judgment decisions.

    Ability to plan and organize daily work routine, including establishing priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time management methodology.

    Ability to maintain and update logs, files, and records with a high degree of accuracy. 

    Ability to research documents and prepare correspondence and reports.   

    Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.

    Ability to maintain a calendar for meetings, deadlines, and events.

    Ability to effectively interact and establish working relationships with elected officials, staff and the public. 

    Ability to maintain an enthusiastic, self-reliant, and self-starting approach to meet job responsibilities and accountability, including striving to complete work with a minimum level of supervision and instruction.

    Typing/keyboard skills.

    Other Qualifications

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

    The successful candidate for this position can expect work to be normally performed inside an office environment. The successful candidate should be able to lift/carry twenty-five (25) pounds of weight.
