Job Summary

The Senior Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer is responsible for enhancing the long-term performance and reliability of critical rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, fans, gas turbines, gearboxes, and related systems.

This role focuses on preventing equipment failures by leveraging condition monitoring, implementing robust asset strategies, and driving defect elimination efforts.

Hence, key responsibilities include enhancing the early detection of equipment degradation through improved condition monitoring programs, preventing failures through optimized asset strategies, and eliminating chronic/high-cost equipment failures by determining and addressing their root causes. 

Success in this role requires building cross-functional alignment to ensure shared understanding, commitment, and support for reliability-focused initiatives.

Additionally, the Senior Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer serves as a champion for reliability best practices and actively mentors others to build a proactive, reliability-centered culture across the organization.

Location/Travel Information

This position is currently based in Freeport, TX, with plans to relocate to our headquarters in Downtown Houston in Q2 2026. It will also require frequent travel to company facilities in Freeport and other off-site locations as needed. This position requires the incumbent to hold a valid, unexpired driver license at all times in order to perform the essential functions of the job. 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Complies with and enforces safety rules and expectations
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company requirements
  • Leads or facilitates root cause analyses and cross-functional problem-solving initiatives
  • Ensures proposed solutions address causes of equipment reliability issues
  • Applies reliability tools (e.g., FMEA, Weibull Analysis, Reliability Growth, Risk Assessment, Pareto Analysis) to drive improvements
  • Utilizes the Pareto Principle to identify and drive focus on high-impact issues
  • Champions and trains others on reliability concepts, tools, and work processes
  • Develops and optimizes asset strategies based on asset criticality
  • Drives implementation of the site reliability strategy
  • Maintains alignment with Facilities Engineering to ensure strategies address real-time issues
  • Demonstrates and champions mindsets and behaviors that unpin a strong reliability culture

  • Develops and utilizes KPIs to report on the health and effectiveness of reliability and condition monitoring programs
  • Utilizes systems (e.g., Meridium, GE, Cordant APM) to manage asset strategies and health
  • Increases effectiveness and value of virtual 3rd-party machine health and monitoring services
  • Synthesizes data from multiple sources to uncover failure patterns, trends, & high-impact risks
  • Identifies and addresses spare parts gaps for critical equipment
  • Initiates, defines, justifies, and supports the execution of strategic initiatives and capital projects to improve equipment reliability
  • Proactively gathers and synthesizes data from multiple sources to uncover failure patterns, trends, and high-impact risks

Minimum Qualification/Work Experience

Required
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

Experience:

  • 10+ years of in-plant experience in reliability, maintenance, or rotating equipment engineering (petrochemicals, refining, or LNG)

  • Hands-on experience with rotating equipment: pumps, compressors, turbines, gearboxes

  • Skilled in reliability tools: RCA, FMEA, Weibull analysis

  • Proficient with CMMS (e.g., SAP) and reliability software (e.g., Meridium, GE, Cordant APM)

  • Experience developing and optimizing asset strategies

Certifications:

  • None required, but familiarity with condition monitoring and reliability best practices expected


Preferred
Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Reliability Engineering or related field

Experience:

  • 15+ years total (8+ years in-plant) with increasing responsibility in reliability roles

  • Leadership in cross-functional reliability initiatives

  • Experience with condition monitoring programs (e.g., thermography, vibration, oil analysis)

Certifications:
