About This Opportunity

The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in establishing and operationalising the new UQ Clinical Trials Centre, ensuring the successful delivery of its five-year strategic and operational goals. Working in close collaboration with the Director and the Associate Director & Head of Operations, this position is central to designing, implementing, and continuously improving efficient business and financial processes that underpin the Centre’s operations, enabling milestones to be achieved on schedule and to a high standard.

With responsibility for managing multiple projects concurrently, the role spans the full project life cycle, from initiation and planning through to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. It requires strong oversight of deliverables, communications, and stakeholder engagement, while also coordinating procurement and contract negotiations to support the Centre’s objectives. Beyond project delivery, the Project Manager will lead strategic initiatives to harmonise UQ’s clinical trials ecosystem, strengthening collaborations with state-wide and national networks. By fostering high-value partnerships and driving sustainable growth, this role is instrumental in positioning UQ as a leader in clinical trials.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Strategic Project Delivery & Procurement: Plan, coordinate, and deliver key strategic initiatives, including vendor evaluation, procurement, and rollout of new systems to support the UQ CTC’s priorities.

  • Business Process & Team Leadership: Collaborate with leadership to establish efficient business, financial, and operating models, while managing and mentoring staff to drive productivity and foster a high-performing culture.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communications: Lead the development of a strategic communications plan, manage UQ CTC’s digital presence, coordinate engagement activities, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Governance, Reporting & Evaluation: Monitor progress against milestones, support governance and reporting frameworks, and provide high-level administrative coordination to leadership, advisory boards, and working groups.

  • Financial & Strategic Growth Management: Oversee budgeting and financial planning in line with University policies, while supporting sustainable growth strategies and identifying new partnership and business development opportunities.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to 31st December 2028 at HEW Level 8.

About You

  • Proven track record managing medium to large projects within complex organisational contexts, ideally in tertiary or research settings.

  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies to effectively monitor progress and deliver outcomes.

  • Experience in vendor selection, coordination, and contract negotiations to support project objectives.

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with senior staff, stakeholders, and partners.

  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and improve business systems and processes for operational efficiency.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills, with the capacity to develop innovative solutions and produce high-quality documentation.

  • Leadership experience in managing project teams, including planning, performance management, and staff development, alongside proven ability in strategic planning and partnership development.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check.
