Sharpsmart are currently recruiting for a Team Leader to join our Spennymoor Plant. This is a key role within our Plant Operations, supporting management while motivating and guiding the operational team on site.
As a Team Leader, you’ll supervise a small operations team while working hands-on alongside them to ensure efficiency, compliance, and quality across all aspects of production. You’ll be accountable for driving performance, maintaining safety standards, and supporting the Plant Supervisor to deliver against daily operational targets.
This is a role for someone with proven team leader experience, a mechanical mindset, and the confidence to motivate a team while keeping operations safe, efficient, and productive.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise shift staff, ensuring all work instructions, policies, and safety procedures are followed at all times
Lead daily workflow, support the Plant Supervisor during huddle meetings, and communicate production targets to staff
Complete shift handovers, logs, and all required paperwork accurately and on time
Monitor floor stock in line with production requirements and contingency levels
Perform quality checks, including routine audits, spot checks, and monthly customer Auditsmart surveys
Support the Plant Supervisor in delivering regular quality assurance training to staff
Identify and implement solutions to improve processes, reduce inefficiencies, and maximise productivity
Track machine performance, analyse trends, and report to the Plant Supervisor and onsite Maintenance Technician
Use company communication systems to engage effectively across teams and departments
Motivate and maintain a professional, productive, and customer-service focused team culture
Lead weekly health and safety training and ensure compliance with workplace safety standards
Promote and drive the Pride in the Workplace programme, ensuring machinery, workstations, and plant floors are clean, safe, and hazard-free
What we are looking for
3+ years’ plant, warehouse, or production leadership experience (or equivalent)
Mechanical background with hands-on problem-solving skills
Proven track record of improving processes, procedures, and efficiency in an operational setting
Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and coach a team
Commitment to safety, compliance, and quality at all times
Willingness to work in a hands-on environment, including confined spaces, lifting, bending, and manual handling as required
Working hours Monday to Friday usually 7am - 5pm - 45 hours
