Description
About Us
At Avivo, we believe housing is a human right. Our Ending Homelessness Division uses Housing First and Harm Reduction approaches to create pathways to stable housing for individuals facing some of the toughest barriers—substance use, mental health challenges, generational and institutional trauma, and long-term homelessness.
Avivo Village is a safe, secure, and service-rich alternative to unsheltered homelessness. We meet people where they are, without judgment, offering dignity, compassion, and real opportunities for change. Our on-site Resident Advocates and Case Managers work side-by-side with community providers to assist with everything from medical care to mental health support.
Your Role
As Program Manager, Shelter Operations, you’ll lead a team of 24/7 frontline staff at Avivo Village to ensure our shelter runs smoothly, safely, and in alignment with our mission. You’ll oversee daily operations, foster a collaborative and trauma-informed team culture, and respond quickly to both program needs and client crises.
This role is hands-on. You’ll be visible in the shelter, actively supporting staff, connecting with residents, and stepping in during emergencies. You’ll also partner closely with leadership, community agencies, and funders to ensure the program’s success.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Lead day-to-day operations for Avivo Village, ensuring high-quality, culturally responsive services.
- Supervise, coach, and develop Resident Advocates and Team Leads to provide consistent, compassionate care.
- Respond to crises, including administering naloxone and CPR when needed.
- Model harm reduction practices and trauma-informed care in all interactions.
- Ensure smooth intake processes, supply management, and property upkeep for 100+ units.
- Facilitate clear communication across shifts and teams through regular staff meetings and supervision.
- Build strong partnerships with service providers, community members, and neighbors.
- Monitor program compliance, track outcomes, and ensure accurate documentation.
- Share on-call coverage for our 24/7 operations with other shelter leadership.
Qualifications
Schedule, Compensation & Workweek
- Standard schedule: must be able to work Tuesday through Saturday, with some overnights included.
- Flexible scheduling for start and end times within the day, based on program needs.
- Rotating on-call coverage is required as part of the leadership team.
- $5,000 bonus provided for on-call responsibilities.
- Important update: Avivo will be transitioning to a 32-hour work week by the end of 2025, while employees will continue to receive full 40-hour pay.
- Able to successfully clear required background checks.
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and ability to travel as needed.
What You Offer
- A proven self-starter and strong leader who takes ownership—implementing ideas, creating processes, driving projects forward, and delivering results with accountability.
- Associate degree in a human services field and 3+ years of direct client care experience, OR bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2+ years of direct client care.
- 2+ years of supervisory experience (behavioral health or shelter setting preferred).
- Commitment to harm reduction, Housing First, and trauma-informed service delivery.
- Skilled in crisis intervention and confident working with individuals actively using substances, including overdose response.
- Strong communicator with the ability to build teams, foster collaboration, and create an inclusive, respectful workplace.
- Effective problem-solver with the judgment, adaptability, and resilience to thrive in fast-paced, high-needs environments.
BENEFITS:
- Medica health plan
- Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Nice Healthcare: offers chat, video visits and in-home primary care visits
