Job Description for a Marina Manager:
The Marina Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and overall management of the marina. The role involves managing staff, coordinating customer service, ensuring the safety of boats and dock areas and staying compliant with local regulations and environmental standards.
- Operational Management:
- Oversees the daily operations of the marina, including boat docking, fueling, and maintenance
- Coordinates repairs and maintenance of marina infrastructure, such as docks, utilities, and buildings
- Ensures compliance with environmental and safety regulations, including waste disposal and fuel handling
- Monitors the usage of slip spaces and ensure accurate billing and payment collections
- Customer Relations:
- Provides high-quality customer service to boat owners, visitors, and tenants
- Resolves customer complaints, requests, and special needs
- Oversees reservations, slip assignments, and other dock services
- Staff Management:
- Hires, trains, and supervises marina staff, including dockhands, maintenance workers, and office personnel
- Creates employee schedules and manages payroll
- Ensures proper training and safety protocols are followed by all employees
- Financial Responsibilities:
- Manages the marina's budget, including forecasting and tracking revenue, expenses, and profits
- Prepares reports on marina performance
- Explores opportunities to increase revenue, such as special events, marketing initiatives, or new services
- Sales & Marketing:
- Promotes the marina's services to attract more customers
- Develops marketing strategies, such as partnering with local businesses, offering promotions, and maintaining a social media presence
- Event Coordination:
- Plans and executes special events, such as fishing tournaments, boat shows, and other waterfront activities
- Works with local authorities and businesses to promote marina-related events
- Compliance & Regulations:
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding environmental protection, safety, and maritime law
- Handles inspections and audits related to environmental and operational standards
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in marina management or a related field (boating, hospitality, etc.).
- Knowledge of Marine Operations: Familiarity with marina equipment, docks, boats, fueling stations, and marina maintenance requirements.
- Leadership Skills: Experience managing staff, leading teams, and handling conflict resolution.
- Customer Service: Strong communication skills and a customer-centric approach.
- Financial Management: Knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and profit/loss management.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with marina management software and reservation systems is a plus.
- Licensing: Boating or maritime certifications are preferred, and some may be required depending on makeup of current staff.
