POSITION: Dance Technical Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: School of Dance

REPORTS TO: Dance Production Manager

WORK SCHEDULE: On Campus

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Dance Technical Coordinator will support School of Dance and outside events in the GRW Theatre and Playhouse theatre spaces. Working with the Dance Production Manager, the Technical Coordinator will oversee day-to-day operations in the dance spaces, coordinate technical needs for production, and oversee student crews in the installation, maintenance, and operation of technical equipment, including but not limited to: lighting equipment, sound equipment, seating banks and risers, and dance floor surfaces.

This is an IATSE union position and will require membership, which can be obtained through Point Park University.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor in Theatre, Dance, related field, or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of Theatrical Lighting Systems (how to read, hang, and focus a plot, basic light board operation, etc.)
• Knowledge of Theatrical Sound Systems (using Qlab, running simple live sound reinforcement, etc.)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential:

1. Organize, hang, and focus lighting plots for all GRW performances (30%)
2. Lay and maintain Marley dance floors for GRW and PNC performances. (20%)
3. Oversee sound system (front of house, monitors, headsets) implementation for shows and events.(20%)
4. Attend technical rehearsals for School of Dance and outside rental productions. (10%)
5. Attend production and departmental meetings as necessary, coordinating with the Dance Production Manager (10%)
6. Other duties as assigned. (10%)

Non Essential:

1. Maintain dance storage and workshop spaces. (50%)
2. In conjunction with Housekeeping, maintain studio spaces. (30%)
3. General upkeep of softgoods and seating in GRW performance space (20%)

Working Environment: Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.

Physical Demands: Job requires repetitively lifting average weight objects with repetitive bending and stooping. Frequently lifts heavy objects but alternating with lighter activities. Job may require physical exertion such as long periods of standing. Job may require above-average agility and dexterity.
