Job Summary:
The Senior Director of Human Resources is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive human capital strategy. The Senior Director will oversee all facets of HR including talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, compliance, compensation, benefits, and professional development. This position also serves as the HR liaison to the Board of Directors, advising on workforce trends, legal compliance, policy development, and staffing strategy in support of the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Board Relations
- Collaborate with executive leadership to set human capital strategy aligned with long-term organizational objectives.
- Serve as a key advisor to the Board of Directors on HR matters including organizational staffing needs, risk management, employee engagement, and labor compliance.
- Prepare and present HR reports and strategic updates to the Board and relevant committees (e.g., HR or Governance).
- Ensure board policies related to personnel are implemented consistently and transparently across the organization.
Talent Acquisition & Retention
- Lead efforts to recruit, hire, and retain highly qualified educators, leaders, and staff across all campuses.
- Oversee development of equitable, mission-aligned hiring practices and onboarding processes.
- Monitor and improve retention through data analysis, feedback, and engagement initiatives.
Performance Management
- Direct the implementation and evaluation of staff and leadership performance systems.
- Train and support supervisors in feedback, coaching, and corrective action processes.
- Align performance management systems with school accountability and academic goals.
Professional Development
- Oversee the design and implementation of professional learning and leadership development across the organization.
- Develop talent pipelines for leadership and hard-to-staff roles.
Compensation, Benefits, and Compliance
- Manage employee compensation strategies to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity.
- Oversee administration of employee benefits and ensure cost-effective and high-quality offerings.
- Ensure full legal compliance with labor laws, certification standards, and HR-related board policies.
Employee Relations & Organizational Culture
- Champion a positive and inclusive culture through policies, communication, and recognition programs.
- Handle employee relations issues, conflict resolution, and workplace investigations with fairness and discretion.
- Promote a culture of feedback, transparency, and professional respect.
HR Operations
- Lead and improve core HR functions, systems, and data analytics.
- Ensure accurate employee records and efficient HRIS management.
- Supervise and develop HR department staff.
- Staying informed about emerging HR technologies, legal developments, and evolving workforce needs.
- Oversees payroll staff and systems
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Education Leadership, or related field (Master’s Degree or advanced HR certification (e.g., SPHR, SHRM-SCP) strongly preferred).
- At least 5 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Ability to develop and implement HR strategies and analyze data.
- Experience reporting to or working with a board.
- Strong knowledge of HR compliance, employment law, and best practices in talent management.
- Experience managing HR functions in a complex organization preferred.
- Expertise in organizational design, workforce planning, and change management.
- Expertise in analyzing workforce data and developing/executing HR strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
- Proven leadership presence with excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
