I. Job Summary
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing care and services to patients of Medical Associates Plus. This role involves collaboration with clinical, technical, clerical, administrative, and support staff to facilitate patient care and recovery.
This position requires initiative, teamwork, and effective communication with healthcare providers, management, and collaborators such as benefits managers and workers’ compensation coordinators. The Medical Assistant delivers holistic patient care in a high-intensity outpatient setting by applying technical skills and professional judgment to a diverse patient population, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.
Responsibilities include administering medications as ordered by a physician or mid-level provider, performing venipuncture for lab tests, and starting IVs under supervision. The position requires a work ethic compatible with the values of Medical Associates Plus and the flexibility to adapt to the needs of the team.
II. Major Areas of Responsibility
- Work collaboratively with the care team to provide high-quality direct and indirect patient care.
- Maintain full compliance with customer service standards; hold self and others accountable.
- Participate in resource planning and management to support efficiency.
- Support and engage in quality improvement activities.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under supervision of a provider, adhering to professional standards for patients of all ages.
- Respond rapidly and appropriately in emergency situations.
- Complete the patient discharge process accurately.
- Remain alert throughout the workday to ensure accurate and timely patient care.
- Maintain physical and psychological fitness to ensure at least 95% attendance.
- Adapt to and learn new systems and specialized programs.
- Maintain strong attention to detail in documentation, equipment use, and patient care.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and supervisors.
- Proactively assist and guide patients, explaining services, policies, and expectations.
- Protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Follow all Medical Associates Plus policies and applicable regulatory standards (e.g., JCAHO, OSHA, Medicare, Medicaid).
- Establish and maintain patient files for documentation and case follow-up.
- Consult regularly with patients and providers to ensure continuity of care, including managing referrals and follow-ups.
- Participate fully in patient care activities under supervision of the Director of Nursing or provider.
- Conduct ongoing patient observations and evaluate treatment effectiveness, document care and report findings.
- Perform routine tests and maintain laboratory standards.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies; report any issues immediately.
- Assist other staff and provide additional support to patients as needed.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Utilize MA-level access in the electronic health record (EHR) system as required.
Qualifications

Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification or certification eligibility through AAMA preferred.
- Candidates with relevant experience or training in venipuncture, EKGs, pharmacology, breath alcohol screening, audiometry, pulmonary function testing, and phlebotomy will also be considered.
- Two years of undergraduate study in computers, business, or a related field preferred.
- Basic CPR certification is required.
- Knowledge of Georgia Workers’ Compensation laws and OSHA reporting regulations preferred.
IV. Physical Abilities
- Must be able to perform all duties with reasonable accommodation.
- Requires physical and mental stamina to remain alert, stand, or sit for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and move moderate weights and perform manual tasks such as using medical equipment and computer keyboards.
V. Working Conditions
- Works in a primary care outpatient setting with climate control and lighting.
- Frequently exposed to communicable diseases and hazardous substances (biological, chemical, and low-level radiation).
- Regularly uses sharp instruments and may experience exposure to unpleasant odors.
- Work involves moderate physical exertion and occasional lifting.
- May work in a windowless environment.
- Frequently exposed to noise from telephones, equipment, patients, and staff.
- May encounter patients or visitors who are emotionally distressed or aggressive.
