As itinerant staff, provides support services for school-site teams. Works with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or exhibit autistic-like behavior, including general education students and students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) who exhibit maladaptive behaviors. Support services include student observations, consultation with school psychologist, behavioral consultation to general and special education teachers, and support staff. Consultation includes, but is not limited to, behavioral strategies, classroom management techniques, and appropriate behavioral supports in the educational environment for students with ASD, general education students, and students with an IEP who exhibit maladaptive behaviors. Trains classroom staff on the use of autism strategies including positive behavior supports, visual supports, prompting procedures, discrete trial, data collection, and behavior analysis.
Requirements / Qualifications
• Evidence of at least two years of successful experience working with students with ASD.
• Knowledge of applied behavioral analysis and teaching methodologies for children within
the autism spectrum.
• Knowledge of correct written and spoken English language.
• Ability to work under challenging conditions while maintaining a positive attitude and
flexibility.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relations with adults and ability
to demonstrate patience and tact in dealing with disabled students.
• Ability to collect data related to student behavior and IEP goal progress.
• Ability to create and implement individualized learning programs in collaboration with
school psychologists and teachers.
• Ability to produce written observations and reports documenting student behavior and
provide evidence-based interventions to improve their program.
• Willingness to remain abreast of current best practices and research in the areas of
autism, special education, and crisis intervention strategies.
• Willingness to receive instruction to become a CPI trainer.
• Ability to conduct CPI trainings with high physical demands and present workshops on a
regular basis.
• Ability to maintain high training standards in communication, presentation, and problem
solving.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have own vehicle in good condition and be willing to travel to any school within the
Chula Vista Elementary School District.
