In the Math-tastic Mindsets class, 5th and 6th graders engage in a range of problems and explorations to deepen their understanding of concepts learned in their math classes. The course is designed to align with the school’s MS Math Department curriculum and pedagogy and generate further enthusiasm for math problem solving.
The instructor for Math-tastic Mindsets is responsible for designing the curriculum and creating engaging, differentiated lessons for a wide range of learners. Experience with Middle School students is essential, including experience with developing age-appropriate lessons for an hour long after-school class. We are looking for a Middle School educator who is passionate and knowledgeable about progressive, inquiry based middle school mathematics education, and eager to design lessons that foster an enthusiasm for mathematics through the incorporation of games, problem solving and deep conceptual thinking. This position requires availability between 3:00 – 4:45 PM, Monday and Thursday.
Responsibilities:
- Experience working with Middle School age students, either in a camp, school or afterschool setting.
- Experience with curriculum design, specifically with Middle School Math content.
- Places value in using an asset based, whole child approach to supporting students.
- Strong skills in developing differentiated lessons and varied lesson tasks.
- Effective interpersonal skills and proven success working collaboratively.

- Document and communicate student/instructor concerns with the After School Program Director/Associate Director
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in education preferred
- 3-4 years of classroom experience with students 4th – 8th grade required
- Ability to supervise classes in the event of teacher absences
