Bilingual Health Educator

Full Time

Location: This position covers multiple counties including Dauphin, Lebanon, Lancaster, Chester, Berks, Schuylkill, Lehigh, Montgomery, Bucks, Northampton, Delaware, and Philadelphia County. 

About the Role:

The Bilingual Health Educator, who reports to the Office Manager, is in charge of providing health screening services, risk reduction counseling, and health education to migrant and seasonal farm workers at their homes, farms, labor camps, and other outreach locations.  The Bilingual Health Educator will collaborate with the Office Manager to refer and assist agricultural workers in obtaining medical and community services to address their health concerns.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED with two years of relevant experience. 
  • Must be able to traverse difficult terrain found in farm worker camps and have reliable transportation. 
  • Community health worker training, or similar training is highly desirable. 

Licenses and Certifications Required: Current CPR certification.  Current PA Driver’s license.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver health education sessions in both English and Spanish to agricultural workers and their families, addressing topics such as nutrition, chronic disease prevention, occupational health, and access to healthcare services.
  • Conduct outreach activities to engage the community, build trust, and identify health education needs through surveys, focus groups, and one-on-one interactions.
  • Collaborate with local healthcare providers, social service agencies, and community organizations to coordinate resources and referrals for participants.
  • Develop culturally relevant educational materials and resources that are easy to understand and accessible to individuals with varying literacy levels.
  • Track and report on program participation, outcomes, and feedback to continuously improve health education initiatives.

Skills:

Bilingual communication skills are essential for effectively engaging with the agricultural worker community, ensuring that health messages are clearly understood and culturally relevant. Strong interpersonal and outreach skills enable the educator to build meaningful relationships and trust, which are critical for successful health interventions. Program development and evaluation skills are used daily to create impactful educational content and measure its effectiveness, allowing for continuous improvement. Proficiency with technology supports data collection, reporting, and the creation of digital educational materials, enhancing program reach and efficiency. Additionally, collaboration and networking skills facilitate partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations, expanding resources and support for participants.
