Overview: Responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate curriculum for each child assigned to her/him. 

 

Essential Functions 

  • Write and implement daily instructional lesson plans according to curricular objectives, including programming for independent work activities. Works with other professional staff as appropriate to coordinate planning.
  • Establish and implement goals for each child. 
  • Conduct continual evaluation of students’ progress including pre and post testing and semi-annual formal assessment.
  • Create and implement behavior management plans as necessary.
  • Meet with parents to gather information for the development of children’s individual goals and to report progress.
  • Collaborate effectively with Classroom Assistant, ensuring s/he is given full information on students in order to provide quality teaching and care.
  • Supervise Classroom Assistant by providing mentoring and training, monitoring work quality, providing feedback, immediately addressing all deficiencies, and conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Actively supervise children during recess, naps and meals.
  • Know and implement all SFCC policies and procedures, NAC Accreditation Standards and WI licensing rules for group childcare centers.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, staff meetings, and staffing when possible, to offer suggestions, observations, and ideas regarding program or individual child needs. Lead department meetings as needed
  • Maintain a clean, neat and stimulating classroom space.
  • Plan and facilitate field trips
  • Participate in school-related evening activities.
  • Develop and maintain all written documentation required for the role including classroom newsletters, lesson plans and daily schedules.
  • Maintain necessary Teaching Credential and complete all required continuing education in the field of Early Childhood/Special Education.  
  • Actively participate in mandatory SFCC training sessions.
  • Provide in-class observation/discussion opportunities for visitors as requested.
  • Report any cases of suspected child abuse and neglect.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to thirty lbs.

  • Handle or manipulate objects at a medium intensity level of effort.

 Mental Requirements

  • Must have ability to cope with changes in routine to accommodate needs of the school.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at a time.
  • Must be able to continually interact with co-workers, parents and children in a positive manner. 

Environmental/Working Conditions

  • Inside work environment approximately 80% of the time.
  • Exposure at times to cold or warm conditions when outside with the children.

Required Education/License/Certifications

 This position requires an associate’s degree in early childhood or special education from an accredited college; bachelor’s degree is preferred.
